It was a lovely experience to go and share some techniques with  them, I had a  great time, hope they did too.

Ongoing Etches

Copper plate in process, #2

Detail of proof of #2 plate

This is a detail of one of three (soon to be four) large copper plates ( about A2 size) that I am working on at the moment, and the first proof of it after  etching  to add more lines. they are going well if slowly!

I have tried to exaggerate the perspectives of the trees to emphasise  some of the extraordinary shapes  they make, and have been using a new process for me, sugar lift then spit biting.

Ink Drawing Workshop

I have been asked to do a Workshop for a local art group near Bristol, (Yay!) the first half will be about Drawing in ink, so I thought it would be a good idea to have a go first..

P1110577I gathered a few objects, as a still life is as good as any way to practice your drawing skills, and tried to use different techniques to draw them . Image above first attempt.

P1110598

P1110602I had another go simplifying what I drew and really aiming for a layering of techniques, but trying to keep it bold shapes, with the little samples to the side . What do you all think? good examples of using inks qualities or not?

Paper Bark Birch Part 2

Drypoint with spitbite on copper print 2014

Carrying on from last post, here is reworked print with a layer of tone added with the techniques of sugar lift and Spit-biting .

It is a techniques that  helps create a much more painterly mark. I was pleased with the outcome because of the range of tones I have managed to make.

As I am new to Spit biting I was working without really knowing what I would get at the end, hoping I was leaving acid on long enough, or not too long!

A productive day!

Westonbirt week two

A1 Drawing the Second

This was the second Plane tree that I  drew while I was there  that week ( for more info please visit my westonbirt arboretum page) This one was in the snow, and awfully cold, made me work fast, which I think helped this drawing, the other two , which were done in more friendly weather conditions I spent a bit more time over, theres more detail to them, but I like the fact that this one is not too detailed or overworked.
