I made December all about portraits as it is a people time of year. I did not sketch as many different people as I imagined , my husband was sketched quite a few times, but then he is in my life a lot so it makes sense looking back.
From focusing on portraits, it was easier to decide what to draw day to day, and it did help to make me feel more confident, having that practice. I was thinking more about how to draw what I was looking at, than what to draw in the first place.
So I think I would put a theme on another month, it was a help not a hinder.
It has been a busy and emotional kind of month. and I will admit that i have missed a few days (9 to be precise!) sketching this month, and sometimes it has felt like a chore. (which is worrying as i have only been doing it 3 months and have another 9 month ahead of me!)
BUT , this month (December) it is my aim to be consistent and put more effort into my sketches, to get myself back on track .
I am going to try to gather some different materials to try drawing with , and maybe think about choosing a theme for this month, like just focus on people and portraits, as it is a family time of year for me.
As always thanks for looking and reading , and good luck in any projects you have going on!
Here are a few of the better sketches that I did during october, for the challenge I set myself, randomly, of doing the Sketch a day for a year. I Hope that this will improve my drawing skills and just keep me in the habit of making things and sketching .
I also hope to post at least once a month on here, of my best ones, but I will be posting everyday ( most of the time) on instagram. It is a good motovational tool to help me complete my sketch a day!
If you would like to follow me on there to see everydays attempts, just search alisonsloggett!
Apologies for the quality of the photos, but was against the clock a bit to finish these all for them to go off to be displayed / sold ( hopefully) at BABE book Fair, taking place in Bristol , this Saturday and Sunday.
If you love hand made books and quirky unique publications then this is the place to go for a bit of retail therapy!
The photos above are a bit random, I will gather some better ones, in more detail, asap and pop them on here under the making section.
Screen Printing on Fabric, and mono printing using a small etching press
Simple Screen printing using paper stencil to make a repeat pattern
Used wiping, cotton buds, and plant material, and taking a second print so sometimes got a positive and negative, when using things like plant bits.
I was invited to attend a little gathering at the Print co operative I recently joined, to meet with some of the other new members. Tea ,chatting and a bit of print making, jolly good Sunday afternoon I think !
Had a great opportunity recently to take part with some other lovely exhibitors from the Bristol area in a fair at Westonbirt Arboretum , in the lovely Oak Hall there, we ( me and Elaine Knight on our table) had our stall selling prints and framed work and when the sunshine came out so did the people to buy things!
I hope to soon put some of the Prints and Photos I was selling here, on my etsy shop!
i have said it out loud, so I shall have to do it now!
