Some Other MA Print Artists…

Claire Cohen '8 minutes'

I will add a few posts about some of the other work that was on show in the MA printmaking show, these are by a lady called Claire Cohen

P1120023

This was a visually tricksy piece , called ‘8minutes’, made by printing onto layers of perspex, giving it a very good sense of 3D-ness.

It represents the sun , and the title is the time it takes for the light from the sun to reach earth. You just wanted to try and touch it !

P1120022

Claire made lovely embossed prints on the wall as well,  her imagery coming from data, like these patterns and designs in the book she made. They were things like, plotting the distance from us to mercury every day , or where the sun is at its highest every day of the year and the orbits of Saturn’s moons. Which she then turned into these wonderful colourful designs.

Ink Drawing Workshop

I have been asked to do a Workshop for a local art group near Bristol, (Yay!) the first half will be about Drawing in ink, so I thought it would be a good idea to have a go first..

P1110577I gathered a few objects, as a still life is as good as any way to practice your drawing skills, and tried to use different techniques to draw them . Image above first attempt.

P1110598

P1110602I had another go simplifying what I drew and really aiming for a layering of techniques, but trying to keep it bold shapes, with the little samples to the side . What do you all think? good examples of using inks qualities or not?

A Magpies Rhyme

As a project for the artists book club I am a member of, we had to make some sort of folded book. This was my attempt at an accordion illustrated book based on one of the traditional rhymes about magpies.

I made lino prints for all the black parts then painted in the rest with inks and watercolour, with the aims of an edition of 10 I have made 4 so far…

Drypoint with spitbite on copper print 2014

Carrying on from last post, here is reworked print with a layer of tone added with the techniques of sugar lift and Spit-biting .

It is a techniques that  helps create a much more painterly mark. I was pleased with the outcome because of the range of tones I have managed to make.

As I am new to Spit biting I was working without really knowing what I would get at the end, hoping I was leaving acid on long enough, or not too long!
